Grand Chess Tour

The modern circuit. A series of elite tournaments that awards points across the year, providing structure and consistency to the super-tournament landscape.

The Circuit

Created in 2015, the Grand Chess Tour brought together existing super-tournaments under a single umbrella. The original three events (Sinquefield Cup, London Classic, and Tata Steel) have been joined by others over the years. Players earn points at each event, with the top finishers qualifying for a final playoff. The tour has provided the consistency and structure that the chess calendar lacked after the decline of Linares, ensuring that the world's top players compete against each other regularly throughout the year.
