Valentina Lvovna Gunina was born on February 4, 1989, in Murmansk, Russia. She is one of the most exciting players in women's chess, known for her willingness to sacrifice material for initiative and her fearlessness in creating complications. She has won the European Individual Women's Championship three times and been a key member of the Russian Olympiad team. While she has never reached a Women's World Championship final, her attacking style has produced some of the most spectacular games in recent women's chess.
