Consolidating Chinese Dominance

Xu Yuhua was born on May 18, 1976, in Jinhua, Zhejiang province, China. She won the 2006 Women's World Championship knockout in Ekaterinburg, Russia, becoming China's third Women's World Champion after Xie Jun and Zhu Chen. Her positional, methodical style was perfectly suited to the knockout format, where steady play and minimal errors are rewarded. She held the title until 2008, when Kosteniuk won the next knockout championship. Xu Yuhua's reign further cemented China's position as the dominant nation in women's chess.
